The founding narrative of Makardhwaja
Ahiravan, the ruler of Patala Lok and Ravana’s brother, transported Lord Shri Ram and Lakshman to Patala Lok after he deceitfully abducted them and kept them hostage. Hanumanji spotted a gatekeeper who resembled him perfectly as he ventured out to find his Lord Shri Ram and Lakshman in Patala Lok. Hanumanji was taken aback by this.
The gatekeeper identified himself as Makardhwaja and said that he was the son of Hanuman when Hanumanji questioned him about his introduction. When Hanumanji heard this, he did not believe it. He inquired about Makardhwaj’s origins. Makardhwaj told his story about this.
Story of Makardhwaja’s birth
According to Makardhwaja, Meghnad captured Hanumanji and brought him before Ravana’s court when he arrived in Lanka in pursuit of Mother Sita. Hanumanji used this fire to reduce Lanka to ashes, but Ravana had lit his tail on fire. Hanumanji then dipped his tail in the water when he arrived at the shore to put out the fire of his flaming tail.
A drop of perspiration that was escaping from his body at the moment dropped into the sea. That drop was devoured by a huge fish that lived in the water. That fish became pregnant after this encounter.
Arrival of Makardhwaja in Patala Lok
The fish was eventually captured by the attendants of Patala Lok’s Asuraraj Ahiravan. A child with a monkey-like form emerged from the fish’s guts when they cut it open. Makardhwaja was the youngster in question. He was brought to Ahiravan and introduced by his attendants. The youngster joined Ahiravan’s army and was given the responsibility of guarding Patal Lok.
Hanumanji and Makardhwaja’s meeting
After meeting Makardhwajaj at Patal Lok, Hanumanji vanquished Ahiravan and set Lord Shri Ram and Lakshman free. At this point, Hanumanji acknowledged Makardhwaja’s veracity.
Following Ahiravan’s murder, Makardhwaja was crowned king of Patal Lok by Hanumanji, who also encouraged him to pursue justice and religion.
