51 Shaktipeeths: At which places did the body parts of Mata Sati fall, which now became Shaktipeeth, Know the whole story
51 Shaktipeeths of Mata Sati: Mythology and Importance: Just as the Char Dham Yatra and the darshan of 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shankar have special significance in Hinduism, similarly the 51 Shaktipeeths of Mata Sati are also considered very sacred. These Shaktipeeths are described in detail in the scriptures and Puranas. According to Devi Purana, these Shaktipeeths are located not only in India but also in the surrounding countries. The story of the establishment of these Shaktipeeths of Mata Sati is associated with Lord Shankar, Mata Sati, her father Daksha Prajapati and Lord Vishnu.

Although 51 Shaktipeeths are mainly mentioned, 52 Shaktipeeths are also described in the Tantra Chudamani text. Each Shaktipeeth is the place where the body parts, ornaments or clothes of Mata Sati fell.
How did the 51 Shaktipeeths of Mata Sati originate?
According to mythology, Mata Sati was the first wife of Lord Shiva. Her father, Daksha Prajapati, once organized a grand Yagya in Kankhal (Haridwar). In this Yagya, he invited all the gods, including Brahma, Vishnu, and Indra, but did not invite Lord Shiva. When Mata Sati came to know about this, she herself reached the Yagya after taking permission from her husband Shiva.
When Mata Sati asked her father the reason for not inviting Lord Shiva, Daksha Prajapati insulted Lord Shiva. Unable to bear the insult of her husband, Mata Sati committed suicide in the same Yagya Kund. When Lord Shiva came to know about this incident, he became extremely angry. He picked up the body of Mata Sati and started doing the Tandava dance. Due to his anger, the entire creation was in danger of destruction.
To protect the creation, Lord Vishnu broke the body of Mata Sati into pieces with his Sudarshan Chakra. Wherever the parts of Mata Sati’s body fell, Shakti Peethas were established there. These total 51 Shaktipeeths have immense glory in Hinduism.
