Sita Ram Prem Katha: A Unique Test
King Janaka’s challenge was no ordinary challenge; it was a test to string the mighty bow of Lord Shiva. Despite the efforts of the other princes, the huge bow remained unbroken.
According to legend, Ravana too had participated in this swayamvara, but he was unable to draw the bow as Sita Maa did not love him. So Ravana left the swayamvara. However, the sacred bow broke when Ram Ji picked it up with unbroken meditation and divine power and attempted to string it. Picking up the bow, which none of the princes could even move, Ram Ji broke it. As soon as this event happened, cheers erupted in the assembly.
The thunder of the assembly confirmed that Ram was the worthy husband of Princess Sita.
Sita gently smiled and placed the jaimala around Ram’s neck. This gesture depicts the heavenly union of two magnificent souls. The air resonated with sacred energy on seeing the divine couple taking vows in front of the sacred fire.
